Citrus fresh cologne that has a lasting effect
- Don’t spray too much, a whiff is more than sufficient
- Surprisingly quite lasting for a few hours, that is if you don’t perspire profusely
- It’s a hit and miss smell. I observed some girls find the smell overpowering

Yves Saint Laurent is an established French brand best known for its clothing lines and fragrances. Its creative efforts have yielded both extravagant and classic pieces. For the world of luxurious scents, it has managed to produce several classics, with L’Homme YSL perfume for men being one of them.
Yves Saint Laurent L’Homme Eau de Toilette is a top rated masculine fragrance, made by one of the best-known creators in the world. Launched in 2006, it has never gone through drastic reformulations. L’Homme is placed in the category of fresh/citrus-spicy perfumes for men by its users, and described as a woody floral musk fragrance, as advertised by the company. The perfume comes in a simple, unsophisticated glass bottle with a massive hexagonal metallic cap, iconic for the brand. It aims to be seen as a luxurious perfume for men, repeatedly chosen by top magazines as a prominent winner.
L’Homme Yves Saint Laurent EDT retails for SG$160. When discounts are applied, you can only pay SG$125 for a bottle of 100 ml.
L’Homme opens with top notes of bergamot and lemon freshness, plus crisp ginger. The middle notes count the surprising violet leaf, spiced with white pepper and basil. The base notes are Virginian cedar, Haitian vetiver, tonka bean, and sandalwood. It’s thus a layered blend of spices and herbal notes that can appeal to a wide range of consumers.
YSL L’Homme already exists in a multitude of spin-off versions, yet the original, classic one remains a favorite. It could be due to its accessible blend, but also because it’s comfortable to wear at any moment of the day. This is a truly pleasant, clean masculine perfume with a somewhat youthful vibe, of moderate longevity. Its sillage is rather soft and thus cannot be perceived from afar. Given its youthful, fresh vibe, it doesn’t mean that it’s only suitable for the youngest of males out there. L’Homme is not extravagant at all, but versatile and very easy to wear. It is safe to assume that its wearability is the main reason for being so popular.
The fragrance is good for work, as for the gym and even for romantic dates. Only a few sprays suffice. It has a crisp opening and remains fresh and subtly spicy throughout the day. This is a bright and elegant scent that is never overpowering. Therefore, it does not make a statement as soon as you’ve entered a room, but rather in close encounters. One could say it is best worn in summer, but a large number of consumers claim it’s good for any season since it’s got a warm dry-down.
