Jarrow Formulas Natural Whey Protein Ultrafiltered Powder

Editor’s Review

Casein and whey are the two proteins contained in milk. Whey is known as a complete protein, low in lactose, and packed with 9 essential amino acids. Supplementing it is a natural way to build muscle, without the added hormones. It’s been much praised by all athletes, bodybuilding experts and websites. On the market, there are many supplement producers focused on making improved, more efficient whey powder formulas, to help consumers get more protein without the need to eat more. The Jarrow Formulas 100% Natural Whey Protein is meant to be a shortcut to enhancing muscular mass through extra protein consumption.

The Product

This carefully engineered protein concentrate claims to be 100% natural, as it’s based on whey that comes from naturally fed and raised cows instead of hormone-loaded ones. In a serving’s 105 calories, only 10 are from fat. The powder contains 50mg of cholesterol of the good kind and it counts up to only 17% of the recommended quantity in a day. Low in carbs, high in protein and calcium, it is also rich in glutamine and loaded with essential and non-essential amino acids (4g/serving), counting Leucine, Isoleucine, Valine, Tryptophan, Methionine, Arginine and more. At the same time, it is low in sodium, carbs and fats, but also in fibre.

The 100% Natural whey Protein from Jarrow Formulas comes in 16 OZ (454g powder) containers. The high quality and rather inexpensive product is discounted to cost around $15. A whole container makes for 17 servings.

The Jarrow Formulas whey protein drink has a more than decent taste, as it’s enriched with French Vanilla. The powder takes best when mixed with soy milk if you want a full taste. The distinct vanilla flavor is not too sweet. There are no artificial sweeteners or flavors. To mix it, you can use a shaker or just stir well in a glass, making sure to dissolve all clumps. The recommended dose is a scoop of 26 g.

Advertized as ‘ultra-filtered whey protein’ from cow’s milk, this powder is clean and efficient, containing no gluten or other allergens. It has 17g net protein and 4g BCAAs in each serving – good for building muscle. While may not be essentially suitable for weight reduction, consumers have reported positive effects in curbing hunger when taking the supplement between meals. Moreover, the new and growing muscle mass has added effect of burning more of the existing fat.

The protein content in this whey shake covers 34% of the recommended daily intake. Additionally, it controls blood sugar levels, preventing fluctuations. Overall, whey isolate provides a greater gain in strength and lean muscle, given that the consumer commits to a resistance training program.
